Grama Niladhari Officers Withdraw from Field Duties Amid Fuel Allowance Dispute

Grama Niladhari Officers across Sri Lanka have commenced a trade union action, withdrawing from all field duties effective June 24. The Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance, led by Chairman Nandana Ranasinghe, announced this decision, citing the government's failure to address their long-standing demands. A primary grievance is the lack of an adequate fuel allowance to cover travel expenses, a request that has been pending for several years. As part of the protest, officers will also avoid attending Divisional Secretariat offices on Mondays and will boycott most meetings convened by Divisional Secretariats. The alliance has warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their action by reporting sick from June 30.
