The Sri Lankan government has decided to implement a special program starting May 10th to purchase local potato harvests at a guaranteed price, aiming to provide immediate solutions for marketing challenges faced by domestic farmers. Under this initiative, potatoes will be bought at Rs. 220 per kilogram, with a maximum purchase limit of 1,000 kg per farmer. The procurement will take place at the C/S Nuwara Eliya Agricultural Cooperative Society in Black Pool, Nuwara Eliya. The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development stated that the acquired potatoes will subsequently be offered to consumers at subsidized prices through Lanka Sathosa outlets.
