The Department of Examinations officially released the results of the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2025 on March 31, 2026. A total of 176,527 candidates have qualified to apply for university entrance from the 281,810 who sat for the examination across 2,362 centers island-wide. This includes 146,405 school applicants and 30,122 private applicants among those eligible for university admission. The results of 111 candidates have been suspended, and applications for re-scrutiny can be submitted online from April 6 to April 22. Candidates can access their results via the official websites, www.doenets.lk and www.results.exams.gov.lk.
According to Commissioner General of Examinations A. K. S. Indika Kumari Liyanage, a total of 66% of candidates who sat for the examination have qualified for university admission, revising the previously reported figure.
Of the total candidates who sat for the examination, 62.64% have qualified for university admission. Dilan Karunaratne of Royal College Colombo secured the island first place in the Biology stream, Eshani Manoda of Veyangoda Bandaranaike Central College achieved the island first place in the Bio-systems Technology stream, and Achintha Rathnayake of Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala, secured the island first place in the Arts stream.
New island first places have also been announced:
- Physical Science stream: Devendran Thirukumaran of Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya.
- Commerce stream: Mohamed Subaideen Mohamed Farthan of Kattankudy Maha Vidyalaya.
- Engineering Technology stream: Heshan Wanigasuriya of Gampaha Bandaranaike College.
Of the total 281,810 candidates who sat for the examination, 221,413 were school applicants and 60,397 were private applicants.
According to Exam Commissioner General A. K. S. Indika Kumari Liyanage, a total of 8,300 candidates achieved three 'A' passes, including 7,477 school applicants and 823 private applicants. Furthermore, 30,898 candidates failed all subjects, comprising 19,301 school applicants and 11,597 private applicants.
The Commissioner General also announced that the Scholarship, GCE Advanced Level, and GCE Ordinary Level examinations for 2026 are expected to be held on their scheduled dates, which were previously announced in September of last year.
