Galle Municipal Council Officials Arrested in Rs. 5,000 Bribe Case

Two officials attached to the Galle Municipal Council, identified as an income inspector and a worker, were arrested on June 25, 2026, by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. They are accused of soliciting and accepting a Rs. 5,000 bribe. The alleged bribe was reportedly in exchange for expediting a document required for a business to pay its annual tax for displaying an advertising board. A businessman had filed a complaint with the Bribery Commission regarding the demand. The arrests took place at the Revenue Inspection Division of the Galle Municipal Council.
