He is accused of bypassing the proper procurement process in 2019 when Rs. 16.5 million in MP allocations was used to purchase 16,361 chairs for voluntary organisations, allegedly favouring a specific manufacturer. He was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with alleged procurement irregularities. Investigators allege that Rs. 165 million was misused to purchase chairs from a private institution outside the prescribed procurement process. The chairs were allegedly allocated to Members of Parliament and subsequently misplaced, leading to a loss for the government.
