Former SIS Director Salley's Detention Challenge Adjourned to July 10; Intervening Petitions on July 17

The Court of Appeal has adjourned the writ petition filed by former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Salley until July 10. Salley's petition challenges his detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with his legal counsel informing the court that he is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. Separately, the Court of Appeal has ordered all intervening petitions filed in support of Salley's writ to be called on July 17. These petitions, submitted by parties including Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, seek to make submissions related to Salley's arrest and detention concerning investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks. Both sets of proceedings were heard before a bench comprising President Justice Rohantha Abeysooriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
