Former President Kumaratunga Urges Buddhist Council to Address Sasana Challenges

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appealed to the Tri-Nihaya Mahanayake Theros to convene a Dhamma Sangayana (Buddhist council). In a letter sent around May 20th, she highlighted the serious challenges currently confronting the Sasana (Buddhist order) and stressed the necessity of implementing a "Sasana Shodhana" (purification) program. Kumaratunga underscored that the enduring stability and welfare of Buddhism are rooted in Dharma and Vinaya. She further expressed her willingness to collaborate with a group of senior lay Buddhist leaders to provide organizational and logistical support for this endeavor.
