He was found guilty of contempt of court for failing to implement a Supreme Court order related to the 2024 Grade 5 scholarship examination. In addition to the prison term, Prematileka was fined three million rupees. The court also stipulated that an additional year of imprisonment would be imposed if the fine is not paid.
