Former State Minister and Eastern Province Governor Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, widely known as "Pillayan", was remanded by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court on April 2. The court ordered his remand pending the Attorney General's instructions concerning investigations into the 2006 disappearance of an Eastern Province Vice Chancellor. Pillayan had been held in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody under detention orders for nearly a year prior to this court appearance. During this period, he had not been produced before the court.

Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as 'Pillayan', was remanded by the Galkissa Magistrate’s Court on April 2, 2026, with Magistrate Prasanna Amarasekara presiding. This clarifies previous reports that stated the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court. Pillayan had been held in CID custody for 359 days, nearly a year, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), in connection with an Easter attack investigation, before being presented to court for the 2006 disappearance case. The disappearance of Professor Sivasubramaniam Ravindranath, the former Eastern University Vice Chancellor, occurred on December 15, 2006.
