Former Minister Mahinda Wijesekara, who passed away, was 81 according to some reports, while others stated 83. He sustained serious injuries in an LTTE bomb attack on March 10, 2009, in Akurassa Godapitiya, for which he received treatment until his death. During his political career, he served as Minister of Postal and Telecommunication Services in 2008 and Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from 2001 to 2004. He is the father of former Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara. His body will be placed at his home in Kotuwa, Matara, on April 03, with final rites scheduled for April 04 at 4:00 PM at the Matara crematorium.
