The Colombo High Court, presided over by Judge Rashantha Godawela, took up the corruption case against former Minister Kumara Jayakody today (May 6th). The court ordered the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to provide all necessary trial documents to the defense within two weeks. Following a pre-trial conference, the judge scheduled the trial to commence on June 17. The allegations involve procurement procedures that allegedly favoured a private company, causing financial loss to the government, in relation to a 2016 carpeting contract at the Lanka Fertiliser Company warehouse premises. Summons are to be issued.
