Former Minister Kumara Jayakody's Corruption Trial Scheduled for June 17

The Colombo High Court has scheduled the trial for former Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, who faces corruption charges filed by the Bribery Commission, to commence on June 17. The case was heard today (May 6, 2026) before High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela, who concluded the pre-trial conference. Judge Godawela ordered that summons be issued to two prosecution witnesses to appear before the court on the trial date. The charges reportedly stem from Jayakody's tenure in 2016 as Manager of the Production and Imports Division of the Lanka Fertilizer Company.
