Former Intelligence Chief Suresh Salley Faces Extended Detention in Easter Attacks Probe

TLDR
  • Suresh Salley held under 180-day detention for Easter attacks probe.

  • Detention expires August 28th; earlier 90-day reports contradicted.

  • Minister claims Salley conspired; PTA detention questioned amid reforms.

Former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Salley has been placed under a fresh 90-day detention order as investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks continue. Salley was taken into custody and is being questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). He is challenging his arrest and detention, with his legal counsel asserting that international probes had previously cleared him. However, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala stated in Parliament that Salley possessed full knowledge and allegedly conspired in the attacks, and attempted to prevent the disclosure of involved parties. During his detention, Salley also received treatment at the National Hospital.
