Former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne Dies by Gunshot, Suicide Suspected

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne died from a gunshot wound at his residence in Malabe on the morning of the 17th. Police suspect suicide, reporting that Wickramaratne shot himself in the chest with his personal security officer's firearm. He reportedly requested the weapon before his morning exercises, and the incident occurred while he was seated outside his home. The Western Province South Divisional Crimes Division and Malabe Police are conducting investigations, and the firearm has been sent for forensic analysis. His body has been placed at the Colombo East Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
