Former DMT Deputy Commissioner Arrested and Granted Bail in Number Plate Corruption Probe

A former Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), identified as Gayani Kaushalya, was arrested on the 28th by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The arrest stems from a corruption charge involving the alleged illegal issuance of number plates for a vehicle lacking valid initial registration. At the time of the alleged offense, Kaushalya served as Deputy Commissioner in the Assignment Division of the DMT, though she currently holds a position as Commissioner at the Department of Probation and Child Care Services in Battaramulla. Following her appearance before the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Asanga S. Bodaragama, she was subsequently granted bail.
