Former Bandarawela Mayor Arrested Over Alleged Rs. 27 Lakh Financial Fraud

Former Mayor of the Bandarawela Municipal Council, Janaka Nishantha Ratnayake, was arrested last night (09) by the Bandarawela Special Crime Investigation Unit. He faces allegations of financial fraud and preparing forged documents concerning the allocation of Municipal Council shops, reportedly involving Rs. 27 lakhs. The investigation was prompted by information from municipal revenue inspectors and clerical officers previously arrested in connection with the case. Ratnayake was presented before the Bandarawela Magistrate's Court and remanded until April 16th.
