Flooding Disrupts Access Roads to BIA; Passengers Advised to Arrive Four Hours Early

TLDR
  • Flooding disrupts BIA access roads.

  • Passengers advised to arrive 4 hours early.

  • Use Colombo-Katunayake Expressway.

Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding in areas surrounding Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, submerging multiple access roads. The Naikanda and Kovinna areas have been severely affected, leading to travel disruptions. Airport authorities are advising passengers to arrive at least four hours prior to their flights and to use the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway as much as possible to avoid delays. The Katunayake-Minuwangoda road is completely blocked at Naikanda, with police recommending alternative routes via Ja-Ela and Minuwangoda for affected motorists.
