Fire Contained at Embilipitiya Paper Mill Scrap Storage Facility

A fire broke out at a storage facility for scrap materials at the Embilipitiya Paper Mill this afternoon, August 30. The blaze, which started around 3:20 PM in an area storing scrap materials including OCC, was tackled by a joint firefighting operation. Personnel from the paper mill, Sri Lanka Army, Police, Embilipitiya Urban Council, and Sevanagala Sugar Factory worked together to contain and extinguish the fire. This coordinated effort prevented the blaze from spreading to other parts of the mill, and it was fully extinguished within approximately an hour. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, with authorities launching further investigations, and initial reports indicate no significant damage beyond the storage area.
