The fire, which broke out in two of four decommissioned train compartments near Galle Railway Station on March 31, 2026, resulted in no reported injuries. On April 1, 2026, the Government Analyst visited the site to inspect the damaged compartments. Firefighting efforts involved two fire engines from the Galle Municipal Council, supported by Police officers, railway staff, and local residents. The Galle Police have launched further investigations, and the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
