Finance Ministry Secretary's Dual Citizenship Denied Amidst Public Questions

A collective known as 'Dinenna Dakuna' has presented five questions concerning the dual citizenship of Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. Harshaṇa Suriyapperuma, highlighting constitutional barriers for public officials. In response, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalin Jayatissa categorically denied that Dr. Suriyapperuma holds dual citizenship. The Minister stated with responsibility that the Secretary has never been a dual citizen during his tenure as an MP, Deputy Minister, or Finance Ministry Secretary. He further noted that legal action could be pursued if the allegations were found to be true. The Minister also addressed a separate financial incident involving USD 2.5 million, confirming that the Secretary need not be removed and that the ministry has taken appropriate action.
