Fifty Foreign Nationals Arrested for Visa Overstay in Negombo

The Department of Immigration and Emigration's Investigation Division arrested 50 foreign nationals on April 21 for illegally remaining in Sri Lanka after their business visas expired. The arrests, made in the Negombo area, followed intelligence received by the department's unit and were carried out under the instructions of the Controller General. Among those apprehended were 47 Chinese nationals, two Malaysian nationals, and one Indian national. The individuals were reportedly staying at a house in Negombo. They are currently being held at the Welisara detention center, with plans for their expedited deportation from the country.
