A fatal accident occurred on the Southern Expressway this morning, October 6th, near the Welipenna service area. A truck, identified as a cement powder bowser, collided with the rear of a container truck that was reportedly stopped to change a flat tire. The driver of the truck died as a result of the crash, which took place near the 40-kilometre post between the Dodangoda and Welipenna interchanges. The incident has led to severe traffic congestion on the Matara-bound lane of the expressway.
