Ex-Transport Authority Chief Arrested Over Rs. 4.16M Permit Scandal, Granted Bail

Prasanna Sanjeewa, the former Chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, has been arrested by the Bribery Commission over allegations of causing a Rs. 4.16 million loss to the government. He is accused of issuing two passenger transport permits for the expressway without following the required tender procedures, a move that allegedly violated the authority's statute and provided undue benefits. Following his arrest, Sanjeewa was presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court, which subsequently released him on bail and imposed a travel ban. Sanjeewa also holds past positions as Chairman of the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha and a Provincial Councillor.
