The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has filed a case in the Colombo High Court against former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena. He is accused of accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 million from a businessman in 2013 to facilitate a matter related to the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka. The case was filed following a lengthy investigation based on a complaint. In response, Abeywardena has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to dismiss the charges. The Supreme Court has scheduled this petition to be considered for confirmation on September 7th.
