Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody stated in Parliament on April 7 that the government has not implemented official power cuts, attributing ongoing electricity disruptions to sudden breakdowns within the system. He emphasized that any planned power cuts would be officially announced with prior notice. This clarification came in response to questions raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman. MP Rahman highlighted public reports of daily outages lasting an hour or more in various areas, questioning the lack of public information if power cuts were indeed being enforced, and claimed unannounced cuts have been occurring nationwide since April 4. Minister Jayakody urged against making misleading statements regarding the situation.
