The motive for the brutal murder of the elderly couple in Hatton has been confirmed as robbery, with the assailant stealing 18 sovereigns of gold jewelry, including the woman's necklace, pendant, and earrings. The suspect, who had reportedly cased several jewelry shops and hid inside the victims' shop before the attack, has been apprehended. He was arrested on May 23rd while hiding in a house in the Petresaw tea estate, Bogawantalawa. The suspect is identified as a resident of Badulla, who was married in the Dikoya area.
