El Niño Impact: Sri Lanka Considers Relief for Affected Workers

The Sri Lankan government is preparing a new relief mechanism for individuals facing job losses due to the impact of the El Niño climate conditions. This initiative was discussed during the fourth meeting of a special Cabinet subcommittee, chaired by Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi, held at the Presidential Secretariat on August 31. The subcommittee and an officials' committee focused on measures to provide assistance to those whose livelihoods are at risk. Discussions also touched upon mitigating potential impacts on vegetable and fruit cultivation.
