Eheliyagoda Police OIC Arrested, Granted Bail Over Gem Theft Probe Allegations

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Eheliyagoda Police Station was arrested by the Ratnapura Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau on May 3rd. The arrest stemmed from allegations of misconduct during the investigation of a gemstone theft complaint, including forcibly taking money from witnesses and suspects. Presented before the Avissawella Magistrate's Court on May 4th, the OIC was released on three surety bonds of Rs. 10 lakhs each. The court also imposed a travel ban and ordered the OIC not to influence the complainants, with bail subject to revocation if these conditions are breached. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on July 3rd.
