Easter Sunday Attacks Trial: 15 Convicted, Sentenced to 200-260 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

The Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar has delivered its verdict in the landmark case concerning the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks. Fifteen of the 24 defendants were found guilty of conspiracy and aiding and abetting the coordinated attacks, while nine others were acquitted and ordered to be released. Convicted individuals, including Naufar Maulavi, received sentences ranging from 200 to 260 years of rigorous imprisonment, with one receiving 260 years, four receiving 240 years, five receiving 220 years, and five receiving 200 years. The court also ordered the confiscation of all movable and immovable assets belonging to the 15 convicts. The attacks on April 21, 2019, targeted churches and hotels, claiming the lives of 269 people and injuring over 500.
