The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has further clarified that scammers are not only misusing its official hotline, 0115 226 126, but are also contacting individuals via WhatsApp messages. These individuals pose as DRP officials to collect personal and sensitive information. Acting Commissioner General M.S.P. Suriyapperuma confirmed that DRP officials do not make calls or send messages from these numbers to request personal details, urging the public to refrain from sharing any personal information in response to such contacts.

Suriyapperuma clarified that the department does not contact individuals to request personal information through these channels. The public is strongly advised to refrain from sharing any personal data with callers or messages claiming to be from the DRP.
