A special police operation conducted at the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre resulted in the arrest of 80 individuals. The two-hour operation, carried out by officers from Dambulla and surrounding police stations, targeted various illicit activities within the premises. Among those apprehended, several were found in possession of narcotics, including cannabis and heroin. Additionally, individuals who had evaded court proceedings for various offenses and those unable to confirm their identity were also taken into custody. Police indicated that the operation was initiated due to a recent increase in anti-social activities in the area, such as the theft of farmers' vegetable stocks and vehicle spare parts.
