Court Appoints Special Medical Board for Ex-Intelligence Chief Suresh Sallay; Security Heightened

The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has issued a 17-page order concerning the special medical board appointed to examine former SIS Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay. The order clarifies that Sallay is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital while in CID custody. The five-member board will assess whether Sallay was subjected to torture and is to submit its report by July 1st.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has detailed the composition of the special medical board appointed to examine former SIS Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who is detained in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks. The five-member board will consist of three specialist psychiatrists and two Judicial Medical Officers (JMOs). The court has ordered the board to submit its report on whether Sallay was subjected to torture or ill-treatment by July 1st. The order was made after considering submissions from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has appointed a five-member special medical board comprising psychiatric experts to examine former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay. The board will assess whether Sallay was subjected to torture while in custody and will conduct the examination at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up around the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court complex with STF and police personnel deployed ahead of the announcement.
