Court Orders Probe into Wimal Weerawansa's Rally Statement for Contempt of Court

The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the Inspector General of Police to investigate a statement made by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa at an SLPP rally in Anuradhapura on September 12. The investigation aims to determine if the remarks constituted contempt of court. This directive was issued after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) requested the probe. CIABOC made the submission during a court hearing concerning MP Namal Rajapaksa and the Airbus bribery case. The Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has since launched the investigation.
