Court of Appeal Dismisses MP Dilith Jayaweera's Contempt of Court Petition

The Court of Appeal has dismissed a writ petition filed by Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera. The petition challenged a complaint referred by the Colombo Fort Magistrate, alleging that remarks made by Jayaweera during a television programme constituted contempt of court. After considering the matter, a three-judge bench of the Court of Appeal pronounced its dismissal on September 30. This decision means the contempt of court proceedings initiated by the magistrate will proceed.
