The Court of Appeal has adjourned the further hearing of a writ petition filed by former State Intelligence Service Director Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who is challenging his detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). Sallay's petition seeks to invalidate the detention order issued in relation to investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks. The main hearing was postponed until July 10, 2026, before Justices Rohantha Abeysuriya and Priyantha Fernando. Separately, the court ordered that all intervening petitions, filed by individuals and groups including Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara seeking to support Sallay's challenge, be called on July 17. President's Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena appeared for Sallay.
