The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court has ordered the further examination of evidence in a case against Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa and five other individuals to be held on July 13. The defendants are accused of obstructing public traffic in front of the United Nations office in Colombo during a protest in 2016 against the visit of the then UN Human Rights Commissioner. The case was adjourned today (18th) as witnesses, including the second defendant Jayanta Samarawira, did not appear in court. The court has instructed the lawyer for the absent defendant to ensure their appearance at the next hearing.
