A physical altercation erupted between two Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) councilors during a session on April 9, leading to one being hospitalized. Senior UNP councilor Ramsy Tony sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital. The incident reportedly occurred after Tony criticized Independent councilor Upali Weliwatta for allegedly conducting unauthorized shop inspections. Kurunduwatta Police have launched an investigation into the matter, recording statements from Tony and other witnesses. Police attempts to apprehend Weliwatta at his Maligawatta residence on April 10 were unsuccessful as he was not present, and he remains unarrested.
