Colombo Inflation Edges Up to 5.5% in May, Non-Food Prices Drive Rise

Colombo's overall inflation rate experienced a marginal increase to 5.5% in May 2026, up from 5.4% in April, according to the Department of Census and Statistics. This shift was influenced by contrasting trends in food and non-food categories. While food inflation declined significantly to 0.9% from 2.8% in the previous month, non-food inflation rose to 7.8% from 6.8%.
