The Colombo High Court today (14) rejected a preliminary objection filed by the defence in a case concerning Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The defence had argued that a charge of conspiracy, brought under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, could not be maintained. High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga dismissed the objection, ruling it lacked merit and that the charge could proceed. Following the court's decision, Yoshitha Rajapaksa pleaded not guilty to the charges read out in open court.

The Colombo High Court, presided over by Judge Udesh Ranatunga, has rejected a preliminary objection raised by the defence in the case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa. The court ruled that legal proceedings can continue under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, concerning alleged money laundering involving assets worth nearly Rs. 73.5 million acquired between October 2012 and August 2013. The ruling also noted that the release of co-accused Daisy Forrest on medical grounds does not halt the case against Rajapaksa.
