Colombo Courts Complex Faces Structural Issues: Section Collapses, Proceedings Halted

A section of the ancient Colombo Courts building, which houses both the High Court and District Courts, collapsed on Saturday night. This incident has resulted in the suspension of all Colombo District Court proceedings for Monday, August 31, 2026, with vehicles also prohibited from entering the premises. All cases scheduled for Monday have been postponed to September 30, 2026. Concurrently, cracks have appeared in the walls of judges' chambers at the Colombo High Court, prompting an investigation by the Ministry of Justice and engineering teams.
