Clergy Calls for Deputy Defence Minister's Removal Amid Easter Attacks Probe

Reverend Father Rohan Silva has called for the removal of Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekera to ensure impartial and transparent investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. The demand was made during an event in Colombo, organized by the Centre for Society and Religion (CSR), which marked the launch of a special report titled “Memory, Pain and Hope: Seeking Justice Seven Years On.” Father Silva emphasized that while probes are showing signs of progress seven years on, the Deputy Minister's past role as Eastern Province Commander during the Sainthamaruthu incidents raises concerns about the fairness of ongoing inquiries. The CSR report itself highlights that despite numerous investigations, crucial questions about the attacks remain unanswered, and full justice has yet to be delivered.
