The probe is reportedly initiated over allegations of contempt of court and obstruction of ongoing investigations concerning former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay. These accusations stem from statements made by the individuals via electronic and social media. The CID conveyed these details to the court on June 15th.

The CID has informed the Fort Magistrate that investigations have been launched into statements made by six individuals, including former ministers Udaya Gammanpila and Wimal Weerawansa, and MP Dilith Jayawira. These statements, made via electronic and social media, are alleged to be contemptuous of court and obstructive to the Easter Sunday attack investigations concerning former National Intelligence Chief Major General Suresh Sale. The CID is also seeking unedited footage from media institutions related to these statements. The individuals named in the investigation, besides Gammanpila, Weerawansa, and Jayawira, are Sugishwara Bandara, Asanka Navaratne, and Mahinda Pathirana.
