CID Launches Contempt of Court Probe Against MPs, Ex-Ministers

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that an investigation has been launched against six individuals, including former ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila, and current MP Dilith Jayaweera. The probe is reportedly initiated over allegations of contempt of court and obstruction of ongoing investigations concerning former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay. These accusations stem from statements made by the individuals via electronic and social media. The CID conveyed these details to the court on June 15th.
