Mahinda Rajapaksa Submits Asset Declaration to CIABOC on Deadline Day

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has directed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to submit an affidavit detailing his assets, liabilities, expenses, and income sources. The deadline for submission is on or before April 10. This directive is part of an ongoing investigation into his assets that commenced in 2015. CIABOC initially requested this information on December 14, 2015, and the required affidavit has not been submitted since. The declaration is expected to cover the period from 2010 to 2015 for Mr. Rajapaksa and his family. Failure to comply with this request could result in further legal action.

Contrary to earlier reports, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa submitted his sworn declaration of assets, expenditures, and income to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on April 10th, the final day of the 14-day period. CIABOC confirmed receipt of the declaration, which was requested following a formal notification on March 23rd in connection with an investigation into his assets for the year 2015.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) confirmed on April 8th that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had not yet submitted his sworn declaration of assets, expenditures, and income. The Commission warned that legal action would be initiated under the Anti-Corruption Act if the declaration was not submitted by April 10th. It was also revealed that Rajapaksa was formally notified by letter on March 23rd. On April 10th, the deadline for submission expired, and CIABOC confirmed that Rajapaksa had not submitted the declaration. Director General Ranaga Dissanayake stated that future action will be taken in this regard.
