President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Friday (May 29, 2026) officially launched the construction of the Rambukkana-Galagedara section, which forms the second phase of Section 3 of the Central Expressway. This new segment spans 18.7 kilometers and is intended to significantly enhance connectivity between the Central Province and other areas of the country. The Road Development Authority, represented by Director General Anuradha Hettiarachchi, is overseeing the project. Construction on the first phase of Section 3, from Pothuhera to Rambukkana, is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by mid-next year.
