The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), Chief Police Inspector Bandara Wijetunga, has been immediately transferred to the Police Field Force Headquarters. This action follows allegations of an unauthorized birthday celebration, including cake cutting, for suspect Ishara Sewwandi within the CCD premises while she was under detention orders. Ishara Sewwandi is identified as a prime suspect in the murder of organized criminal Ganemulla Sanjeewa. The transfer was ordered by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, and Police Media Spokesperson Udaya Kumara Wootler confirmed the developments. A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Special Investigation Unit, with reports indicating that 15 individuals have already provided statements regarding the incident.
