This action follows allegations of an unauthorized birthday celebration, including cake cutting, for suspect Ishara Sewwandi within the CCD premises while she was under detention orders. Ishara Sewwandi is identified as a prime suspect in the murder of organized criminal Ganemulla Sanjeewa. The transfer was ordered by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, and Police Media Spokesperson Udaya Kumara Wootler confirmed the developments. A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Special Investigation Unit, with reports indicating that 15 individuals have already provided statements regarding the incident.

The incident, involving preparations to cut a cake, reportedly occurred on March 29th, and was prevented by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Colombo Division, who has since submitted a report. Sewwandi is identified as a key suspect in the murder of organized criminal 'Ganeemulla Sanjeewa'.
