Cabinet Approves Policy for State Sector Jobs for National Athletes

The Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved a proposal to establish a policy framework aimed at providing state sector job opportunities for national and international level athletes. This initiative seeks to address the prevalent issue of talented athletes prematurely ending their careers due to a lack of stable employment. The framework is designed to ensure long-term job security, retain high-performing individuals within the national sports system, and foster greater international achievements. Jobs will be offered across state, semi-state, and statutory institutions through a transparent, fair, and merit-based selection process, aiming to mitigate the negative impact on Sri Lanka's athletic talent retention and international competitiveness.
