Cabinet Approves National Cyber Security Authority and Digital Units to Accelerate Digital Economy

The Sri Lankan cabinet has granted approval for key initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation and strengthening the digital economy. This includes the greenlight for a bill to establish a National Cyber Security Regulatory Authority, with the Ministry of Digital Economy and SLCERT collaborating on its drafting. Concurrently, cabinet approval has been secured to establish 'Digital Development Units' within all state institutions. These units will be tasked with managing and coordinating digital transformation efforts, aiming to expedite the National Digital Economic Plan (2025-2030) and ensure alignment with national digital public facility initiatives. The measures collectively seek to build a robust legal and institutional framework for digital policy, technology implementation, and regulatory oversight.
