Cabinet Approves Major Climate-Resilient Water Project for 600,000 Families

The Sri Lankan Cabinet has granted approval for a major climate-resilient sustainable water supply and sanitation project aimed at improving access to safe drinking water for rural communities. This initiative will implement 300 projects across 50 small towns and rural areas, targeting approximately 600,000 families. The project, with an estimated total cost of USD 250 million, is proposed to be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is expected to provide USD 200 million. Key objectives include enhancing the reliability and climate resilience of water infrastructure and reducing non-revenue water, addressing a critical challenge to the country's socio-economic development.
