The Ministry of Fisheries has announced further details regarding the approved fuel subsidy scheme. Small fishing vessels will receive a subsidy of Rs. 50 per litre, with an allocation of 25 litres per day for 25 days a month. Multi-day fishing vessels will be entitled to Rs. 150,000 per trip. The program is scheduled to take effect from April 20. This decision followed a special discussion between Minister of Fisheries, Ramalingam Chandrasekar and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by the fisheries sector due to rising global fuel prices.

The Sri Lankan Cabinet has officially approved a fuel subsidy scheme aimed at supporting the nation's fishing industry. Under the newly sanctioned plan, small fishing boats will receive a subsidy of Rs. 50 per litre of fuel. For multi-day fishing vessels, a larger subsidy of Rs. 150,000 will be provided per trip.
