CAA Uncovers Alleged "Made in China" Footwear Fraud in Dehiwala

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized nearly 1,000 pairs of footwear from a suspected illegal assembly facility in Kawdana, Dehiwala. The operation, conducted on September 11, followed an investigation into invoices from a well-known clothing and fashion retail chain. Authorities allege that footwear components were imported separately and then assembled and bonded at the Dehiwala premises. The facility is accused of falsely labelling these locally assembled shoes as "Made in China" to evade taxes and deceive consumers. The seized footwear was reportedly being sold at higher prices under this misrepresentation.
