A 53-year-old businessman from Matale was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday (08) for attempting to smuggle gold valued at Rs. 11,885,514. The suspect, who arrived from Dubai, was apprehended by officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau. He was allegedly attempting to leave the airport with the gold, consisting of 12 gold necklaces, 10 bangles, and 2 gold biscuits, without a permit or declaration to Customs. The gold was found concealed within his luggage.
